Rajat Kakar Appointed As Managing Director Of Sony Music

Rajat Kakar has been appointed as the Managing Director of Sony Music India. The news of Kakar's appointment was announced by Sony Music Entertainment. Rajat Kakar will be working based in Mumbai and will report to Shridhar Subramaniam, President of Sony Music Entertainment, Strategy and Market Development, Asia and Middle East. To lead the company's market share across Bollywood, Tollywood, Punjabi, Pop and kids-based Indian music industry, the new Managing Director will keep up with his work of taking the company's strategies and plans, focusing on growing the industry. Besides, Kakar will work towards building the premium content business of the industry and also towards developing new One Sony opportunities with the relative Sony companies. Rajat Kakar, on this establishment said he is very excited to build on the strong foundation of the company as Sony Music India is now an artist-first, marketing driven company.

The President, Subramaniam was quoted saying that India would expectedly turn out to be a Top Ten music in a span of three years and that Sony Music is composed to aid and capitalize on this growth. Subramaniam also praised the new MD calling him an experienced entertainment executive with the ability of raising Sony Music to another successful level, expanding their strategies across the region. Rajat Kakar will also work towards increasing the company's partnerships, investments and initiatives. Sony, that happens to be the largest foreign-owned music company in the country also has expanded activities with Orchard, Sony Music Entertainment, Sony/ATV. Before being the MD, Rajat Kakar served as the CEO and MD of Phonographic Performance Limited for over 2 years.
