Janhvi Kapoor Starrer 'Gunjan Saxena' To Release Directly On Netflix

Following the deadly situation of the coronavirus pandemic, the Janhvi Kapoor starrer movie 'Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl' is all set to premiere digitally on OTT platform. Makers have now decided to release the Hindi biopic movie on popular online streaming service Netflix due to the imposition of a lockdown across the world. Directed by Sharan Sharma, Gunjan Saxena was initially scheduled to release theatrically on the big screens but the makers have now decided to go for a digital release of the movie on Netflix. A release date for the movie has not yet been revealed as the status has been set as 'coming soon'. A teaser of the upcoming film was also released on Tuesday displaying pictures of the original Gunjan Saxena alongside a voice over by Janhvi saying "Her inspirational journey made history. This is her story. Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl coming soon on Netflix".

Produced jointly by Dharma Productions and Zee Studios, ‘Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl’ is a true story based on the life of Gunjan Saxena, the first female and Indian woman Air Force Pilot during combat along with Srividya Rajan. Janhvi Kapoor essays the lead role of Gunjan Saxena alongside actors Pankaj Tripathi and Angad Bedi in the film. Gunjan Saxena was initially slated to theatrically release on 13 March, 2020 but the release got pulled ahead to 24 April following COVID-19 crisis. Curently, the movie's release has again got postponed and Netflix has now obtained the distribution and release right of the movie. It is speculated that the normal functioning of theatres would need a long time following which, OTT platforms and digital streaming services have come to the rescue amid dark times.
