HORRIFIC! Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Padmavati' film set burnt down, See Pictures

The incident took place at around 2 am at the Masai Pathar near Kolhapur, where the movie was being shot. Police reached the spot early in the morning on March 15 with fire engines and the fire was brought under control. Reports suggest that a group of 30-50 people attacked the set with torches and petrol bombs, heavily damaging it. The search to nab the culprits is on. The film, starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, and Shahid Kapoor, had run into controversy a while ago when the team was shooting in Rajasthan. Members of the Karni Sena from Rajasthan had attacked director Bhansali while shooting there, accusing him of portraying Queen Padmavati in the bad light. This is the second time Bhansali has faced the ire of certain groups over the filming of his next magnum opus "Padmavati", a historic-costume drama based on the legendary Rani Padmini of Chittor in modern day Rajasthan. On January 27, Bhansali was slapped, roughed up and his film set vandalized by Karni Sena activists in a Jaipur fort for alleged distortions in the film script. Padmavati is a fictionalized account of the life of Rani Padmini, a legendary queen mentioned in Padmavati and 1303 siege of the Chittor fort in Rajputana by Alauddin Khilji, the Turkic ruler of the Delhi Sultanate. According to Padmavat, Khilji led the invasion motivated by his desire to capture the beautiful queen Rani Padmini, the wife of Rana Rawal Ratan Singh, the ruler of Mewar. However, Rani Padmini sacrificed herself even before Khilji could enter her fort. The film is scheduled for a mid-November release this year.
