Farhan Akhtar To Produce Sports Biopic Of Deepa Malik, Silver Medal Winner At The Paralympic Games

Sport-based biopics are quite famous in Bollywood. Be it, ‘Dangal’, ‘Mary Kom’, ‘MS Dhoni –The Untold Story’ or ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’, all these movies have not only done well but are also very inspirational and moving. Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani who are already making a biopic, ‘Gold’, directed by Reema Kagti, on the life of hockey player Balbir Singh, who won the first Olympic medal for India in 1948. Are now all set to create another sports biopic and this time they have chosen the life of Deepa Malik, India’s first and only woman to win a medal at the Paralympic Games. As per the reports, the script developing team of Excel Entertainment productions shared the script with Ritesh. And he was very much impressed by the story and instantly scheduled a meeting with Deepa Malik to seek her permission for the movie and get to know more about her life’s story. After knowing her story in detail, Ritesh feels it is a very inspiring story and shall be told on big screen. Deepa Malik is not only the Silver Medal winner but has also won accolades for her participation in various adventure sports. She was honoured with the Arjuna Award in 2012.
