Begum Jaan Box Office Collection - Vidya Balan
Begum Jaan Box Office Collection - Vidya Balan - starrer Begum Jaan released this Friday after a strong media promotion campaign. Producer Mahesh Bhatt’s low-budget remake, a mere budget of 14-15 crores, attracted a decent number of audience on the first day. After an occupancy of 15% in the morning show, the movie accumulated a business of 3.94 crore by the 1st day box office collection, throughout the country.
As the weekend arrived early–thanks to a holiday due to a Good Friday–the movie released across 1100 theatres, Director Srijit Mukherjee, who also directed the original Bengali version named Rajkahini, should be happy with the first day collection as the movie hit the screen competing with giants–The Fate of the Furious and the IPL, of course.
Fans were hoping for another quintessential performance from the Kahaani-girl, and they were treated with one! Playing the title role of a brothel madam, in the background of post-partition, who tries to save her brothel workers from a crisis situation due to partition, Vidya did justice to her character. But, despite a strong performance by Vidya and other co-actors, and a strong content, the movie received a mixed review from the critics. Direction and music, in particular, was lambasted by some viewers, as they felt it was not in sync with the story.
A viewer at Spice Mall, Noida said: “All actors performed sharply. But the direction and technical aspects were not up to the mark.” Another viewer said: “Vidya Balan did justice to the character, but as the movie progressed towards the ending, it was dragged. Editing could have been crisper.”
