Ranveer Singh Starrer 83 Confirmed For Theatrical Release, Director Dismisses OTT Release
Due to the coronavirus pandemic outbreak all across the world, the lives of many have turned upside down, resulting in an imposition of a strict lockdown. Following the circumstances, the work in many businesses and many industries have come to a halt, and so has the work in the Bollywood entertainment industry, wherein releases and shootings are being postponed until further notice. Recently, there were reports that Kabir Khan's upcoming sports drama film, 83, would first release on an OTT platform i.e., over-the-top media services. The downfall in the Bollywood industry is being covered up by the online web platforms and streaming sites to a good extent, as OTT platforms have been coming to the rescue. Because of speculations involving the delay in the normal functioning and opening of the theatres, that would extend to an even longer time, the OTT platforms are being considered for releases of upcoming movies. However, the Reliance Entertainment Group on Saturday brought a sense of relief to people who enjoy watching the smallest of movies on the big screens. The news reports that 83 would have a digital premiere, were dismissed by the makers of the film. 83, starring Ranveer Singh essaying the role of well-known cricketer Kapil Dev, was all set to hit the theatres on 10 April 2020. The release of the movie has now been postponed because of the scenario around the world at present.
Reports were that an OTT platform had offered a whopping 143 crore to the makers of the film, in an attempt to give the movie a digital release. Kabir Khan, on the other hand, banished the reports by giving his confirmation that the movie is only set for a theatrical release and not a digital one at any cost. The director also added that the post-production work and the VFX of the movie are yet to be completed and resolved. Shibashish Sarkar, the CEO of Reliance Entertainment Group, was quoted saying: "Everybody has shown interest in this project but we are not engaging in any discussion for a straight to digital release currently. We will wait for the next four to six months before taking any further call". The official information of the release of the movie in theatres came around as a good one among people, who were waiting to see the cricket sports drama on the screens. However, the anticipation of its release still remains as the makers have decided to wait for as long as needed for the theatres to function like they normally did, earlier. The upcoming Bollywood movie, 83, currently, does not hold any new release date, as the makers are patiently waiting for the situation to come back on track.
