Movie Review: Ranchi Diaries – Saundrya Sharma, Himansh Kohli, Anupam Kher

PLOT:- The story sets in Ranchi, Jharkhand, where five friends want to make it big. One of them Saundrya Sharma wants to be a singer in Bollywood, but to do that she has to get out of this small town world. They plan a bank robbery to get some money which gets them in a trouble.

REVIEW:- When the trailer of ‘Ranchi Diaries’ was dropped a few months ago, nothing was expected out of it. The trailer was not very impressive and it didn’t make anyone go wow and the film is just as what trailer was. The concept of this film is not new and we have seen these kinds of movies before, even the direction and the screenplay and week, and it didn’t help the movie at all. Now, the songs from the movie, especially ‘Fashion Queen’ is really good and that’s the only good thing here, other than that, this is a disappointing movie. Now, we get that this is directed by a first-time director Sattwik Mohanty, and considering that he has not done a bad job, but he is far behind the good new generation of filmmakers but he can do it, the story was actually interesting but the screenplay just made it like a bad movie.

Not one but there are many scenes in the movie, which makes you go, ‘why is this happening’ or ‘what’s the point of this’ and we get that they were trying to make this a black comedy but that didn’t work, in fact, it hurts the movie. Even the good performances of Anupam Kher and Jimmy Shergill didn’t help the movie. Himansh Kohli is far behind acting and even after three films he can’t act, he tries to act in this movie but his tries to play the hero rather than the character, which is bad because no one would see him as a hero; now he can act if he works on his expressions, all he has to do is play the character and not the hero, he can’t be a Varun Dhawan or a Ranbir Kapoor but he can be a Sidharth Malhotra kind of actor.

Only only good performance from the young actor is from Saundrya Sharma, now this young girl has all the tools to succeed, she is not a great actor as of now but she can if she works hard, before this film, she was seen in ‘Meerutiya Gangsters’ and she also good in that too, she can be a good character actor.

The life of these people in Ranchi is crazy, the cops are drinking on duty, and the bank robber is joking while doing that, all that is not good for this film. Not everyone can be Anurag Kashyap and make ‘Gangs Of Wasseypur’. The script of the movie had the potential and it could have been better if someone else made this film. Now, this is not a horrible film, there are some elements which make us laugh but those are very few.

WHY TO WATCH:- This movie only should be watched if you are bored in life and wants to see anything and laugh or if you are a die-hard fan of Anupam Kher and Jimmy Shergill.
