Movie Review: Bulbbul – Tripti, Avinash, Paoli, Rahul

Attracting widespread popularity is the new film of the Bollywood town: 'Bulbbul' which has finally premiered on Netflix on 24 June and is now available to watch. Directed by Anvita Dutt and produced by Anushka Sharma, Bulbbul has etched it's name in being a movie that is one of a kind and falls in the era of 'feminism'. The movie features Tripti Dimri, Avinash Tiwary, Paoli Dam and Rahul Bose who have ensured that the movie touches the hearts of people, getting the movie a Star rating of 3 stars.

Plot: The horror drama is set during the 1880s in Bengal and revolves around a 5-year-old girl, Bulbbul who is married to a man, Indranil, decades elder to her in age. The man has a younger twin, Mahendra and a young brother, Satya. The movie deals with suspense as Mahendra dies mysteriously and Indranil disappears from home. However, Bulbbul in the movie grows up to be the ‘thakurain’ of the ancestral mansion. Satya who returns from London gets engrossed in the stories revolving around a witch who kills men in the village. Satya however admires the confident Bulbbul who once was an emotional girl. The movie contains elements of horror, suspense, thriller and revenge.

Review: The movie is interesting as it revolves around the concept of child marriage and feminism. The film displays the transformation of a little notorious, playful girl into a good, obedient wife. The movie shows the adaptation and relationships that the kid undergoes in the ancestral mansion with her husband, his mentally challenged twin and his wife and the youngest brother. The movie also contains horror elements which is liked by people. The period in the late 19th century and the customs followed back then have been beautifully showcased in the movie. The movie has a strong hold on the life of women, thus evolving into a tale of powerful feminism and a bold woman. The direction of the movie is superb even though Anvita falters and slips from the plot a little here and there.

Why To Watch: Bulbbul is a movie that is bold and confident with a display of strong characters and well-developed feminism and aspects of life. The cast of the movie has given a terrific performance adding to the beauty of the movie.
