Movie 'Manjhi: The Mountain Man' Review - Nawazuddin Siddiqui

There is a line in the movie that says we should not be dependent on god as may be god is dependent on us. This line itself tells a lot about the movie. Ketan Mehta is one of those directors who have done different from the Bollywood. He has directed movies like Aamir Khan starer "Mangal Pandey" and has even directed off beat movies like "Rangrasiya". You may not be knowing the name of Dashrath Manjhi which is an ordinary person of a small village, but when you got to know about his work that he cut mountain just by a hammer then the image of the person automatically changes. The producer of the movie has already good two good news before the release of the movie. The movie was made tax free in UP and then was given 100% relaxation on tax in Bihar. The movie was leaked online before few days of its release which was a shocking news for the whole team of the film makers. It has been said that with the piracy of the movie the film producers use the whole budget of the movie. But on the contrary, Ketan Mehta along with Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Radhika Apta themselves worked really hard for the promotion of the movie. Now it can seen that what result will do on the box office. Story: The movie is of a young man of  a small village named Gehlur. Although the government has made enough laws for the equality of upper ans lower caste but in the movie when lower caste Dashrath Manjhi (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) touches the head of the upper caste (Tigmanshu Dhulia) he was beaten up the people and was left half dead. In the meanwhile the wife of Dashrath Manjhi fells ill and due to lack of medicinal facilities goes dead. Manjhi realizes that if she would have been taken to the government hospital in the city than she could be saved. As there was no road they had to cross the mountain to reach to the hospital. After the death of wife the only motive of Dashrath's life was to reduce the distance between the village and the city hospital by cutting the mountain. In the 60s when he took hammer from his house and went to cut the mountains, his father himself considered mad. But he madly started cutting mountains with the hammer. Acting: In the role of Dashrath Manjhi Nawazuddin Siddiqui has done the best role of his career. He has done the great role of 60s Manjhi and has lived his role. Both Radhika Apte and Tigmanshu Dhulia have done their roles best. Direction: Ketan Mehta has done well in terms of direction. He has beautifully pictured the whole scene of the 60s. There have been certain love scenes between Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Radhika Apte that could be avoided. Although the movie is a bit slow but is of demand. He has took up a subject that could be risky in terms of box office collection. Songs: Although there has been songs in the movie but they are not those that will be in your words after you come out of the cinema hall. Why Should watch the movie: If you are a fan of Nawazuddin then you must watch the movie. Also it gives a message that is good for the youth today. Could Delhi Government not make such a movie tax free? Actors : Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Radhika Apte, Tigmanshu Dhulia Director: Ketan Mehta Movie Type: Biopic Duration: 121 minutes
