Anurag Kashyap's 'Mukkabaaz' Will Showcase Lynching Case Of Dadri

Anurag Kashyap‘s upcoming movie ‘Mukkabaaz’ is already garnering a lot of praise from its screening at Toronto International Film Festival and at the inaugural Elgouna Film Festival in Egypt last night. The hard-hitting movie based on the true story of a boxer in Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh is layered with subplots that are taken from the hurtful truth afflicting politics as well as the social fabric in India today. The movie highlights the dangerous designs of some upper caste extremists who use Gauraksha and beef politics as a tool to settle their personal scores. There is also a scene in the movie that reminds of the horrific lynching of Akhlaq in Dadri that shook the nation. Though the movie has no communal angle, it’s more about the tussle between upper caste and lower castes (including Rajputs who are high up in the caste hierarchy but are projected as lower caste as compared to Brahmins). We all are well aware that Anurag Kashyap is a filmmaker who doesn’t shy away from highlighting what he feels should be highlighted from a movie. He has a point of view which he brings forth with his movies. And ‘Mukkabaaz’ will resonate with many Indians who have been witnessing all that has been showcased in the movie. The movie is scheduled for a release on theatres on 10^th of November. Now let us wait and watch the kind of reception it gets.
