5 Bollywood Movies That Faced Copyright Controversy Before Its Release

Bollywood churns out a big number of movies every year. While some out of them like ‘Baahubali 2’ and ‘Dangal’ create history, some leave no mark at the Box Office and go unnoticed. And then there are those films which face controversy for the copyright issues. Here are some of the movies which faced the copyright controversy in recent past.
The latest inductee in the list is Sushant Singh Rajput and Kriti Sanon starrer ‘Raabta’. When the trailer was released two months ago everyone thought that it is the official remake of 2009 South Indian movie ‘Magadheera’. But the makers of ‘Raabta’ completely denied it. The director of ‘Magadheera’, SS Rajamouli took a legal action against the ‘Raabta’ to ban the movie. However today just a day before its release ‘Raabta’ won the case and is now ready for its release.
Hrithik Roshan’s ‘Mohenjo Daro’ came last year in August. It had one of the biggest clash of the year with Akshay Kumar’s ‘Rustom’. Before its release, Ashutosh Gowariker’s directorial movie was in talk because a scriptwriter Akshyaditya Lama claimed that it was his story. According to him, he went to Ashutosh some years back for the same movie but he denied to make a period film.
  1. JANNAT 2
Critically acclaimed movie ‘Jannat 2’ was released in 2012 featuring Emraan Hashmi and Randeep Hooda. But the movie faced a controversy when the writer Kapil Chopra claimed that Mahesh Bhatt camp has stolen their story. At the end, Kapil was given the credit and he also received the compensation of 20 lakh. However, the movie was good and received decent reviews.
  1. RA. ONE
The 2011 movie ‘Ra. One’ was thrashed badly by the critics. What said to be one of the biggest movies of the decade happens to one big disappointment. What made even bad for the film was that TV producer and writer Yash Patnayak claimed that it was his idea. He also went to court with the issue where he won and received the compensation of 1 crore.
Another Shah Rukh Khan movie which faced this controversy is 2007 Farah Khan directorial ‘Om Shanti Om’. Well, the controversy happened after its release in 2008 when screenwriter Ajay Monga claimed that ‘Om Shanti Om’ is based on the Hollywood movie ‘The Silent’.
