'Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya' is not a continuation: Shashank Khaitan

Following the benefit of 'Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania' movie in 2014, Bollywood director Shashank Khaitan could feel the burden of expectations. 'When he first penned the story of "Badrinath Ki Dulhania", he just had a story without a title. It was a true heartland love story. Instantly after he narrated the script to Karan Johar, the producer of the movie, he told him there was nothing in common within this one and Humpty. The stories are attached by themes of love and wedding, but it’s not a sequel, he describes. KJo loved the name of the movie's hero 'Badrinath Bansal' and recommended weaving a title around it, says Khaitan, adding further he said that 'That’s how the franchise was turned.' Khaitan indicates that post the amazing response to Humpty, he grew reckless and wanted to mimic KJo’s style. 'He wrote a full blasted NRI love story, yielding to the force of making a bigger movie. Karan was puzzled and shocked when he read it. He said, to write an NRI movie, one needs to reach them and consume a lot of time overseas.' Just draft the best you can, don’t write his world’, he said. Question him about Kangana Ranaut’s nefarious nepotism remark on Karan’s chat show and he says, 'It’s too significant talk about nothing. He is appointing David Dhawan’s son Varun Dhawan because people want to notice him. We all use our references to get a better deal. David sir came from nothing and made a brand. Why shouldn’t he suggest his son for a job? In drama school, he was told Dharma production would never produce his movie because he is not from the industry. But he just stepped in and he liked his story. Karan didn’t ask what his father does. He just worries about his boys making a good movie.
