This Friday on 14th of July, witnessed the release of talented movie maker Onir’s latest movie ‘Shab’. The movie starred debutant Ashish Bisht, Raveena Tandon, Arpita Chatterjee and Areesz Gandii. The movie talks about the intricate relationships and hidden and hard hitting truths of the elite society.
The movie made on a small budget sketches the human emotions and turbulent lives of four different people from different backgrounds attempting to make a big in their own ways.
The movie opened opposite the big release of the day, ‘Jagga Jasoos’ hence was certain to get a luke warm opening. The movie managed to earn only Rs. 30 lakhs Approx. on its opening day at the Box Office and over the weekend also there are no expectations from it to make a big mark.
The story has too many interrelated tracks in the story and although they are fairly interesting, they ultimately give you a feeling that they are leading nowhere. The screenplay and performances are engaging to a point but the fact that almost every character is either unhappy or depressed doesn’t make for a happy viewing.
On the whole, ‘Shab’ has much-limited appeal and will largely go unnoticed except in a handful of cinemas in the country.
