Padman Box Office Collection; The Akshay Kumar Starrer Earns Rs 10.26 Crores On Day 1
Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar’s latest film Padman got to a good beginning at the box office on day 1. The film, based on the real-life story of Arunachalam Muruganantham who rose to fame after his struggles to make low-cost sanitary pads for women in his village become successful, earned Rs 10.26 crores on its opening day.
Film critics have predicted around Rs 13 to 14 crores on its opening for Padman. However, these figures were not achieved on the day 1. Still, the movie is said to have a great beginning and is likely to gain another Rs 20 to 25 crores in the weekend.
With the #PadManChallenge wherein the actor asked his co-stars and friends from his industry to post photos holding a sanitary pad, the movie got wider attention. Having got a good opening, the movie is likely to enter the 100 crore club within the first couple of weeks.
However, the release of Sidharth Malhotra’s Aiyaary on the same day along with the still-running Padmaavat are believed to have affected the net collection of Padman at the box office. The historical drama of Sanjay Leela Bhansali had to fight more on the off-screen than what the film really had.
The movie was released only after the apex court’s intervention. The film faced stiff opposition from Karni Sena and others which alleged the film to present historical facts in a wrong manner.
Deepika Padukone – Ranveer Kapoor – Shahid Kapoor starrer film is still running in theatres across the country. According to the latest collection reports, the movie collected approximately Rs 3.5 crore on February 9, its third Friday.
Written and directed by R Balki, the movie features Radhika Apte and Sonam Kapoor in pivotal roles. Twinkle Khanna produces the film which is based on her book ‘The Sanitary Man of the Sacred Land.’
