‘Padmaavat’ Day Wise Box Office Collection Budget Hit or Flop

Padmaavat Collection Report Day 1; Has Controversy lifted Bhansali’s Period Drama? Padmaavat hit the theatres on January 25 amid stiff protests and campaigns led by Karni Sena. The movie probably has fought more wars than what it has on the screen. Despite all these stiff oppositions including the ban on the movie by four states, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period drama earned Rs 19 crore on day 1 at the box office. According to some reports, the movie has made another five crores from its preview shows held on the previous day of the release. As per the latest Box Office collection reports, Padmaavat registered 70 to 80 percent occupancy on the opening day. The movie had to fight harder to hit the screens. It even sought the assistance from the Apex court which lifted the ban imposed by the governments of four states. Yet, some movie buffs did not move to the theatre due to fear. This also has affected the first-day collection. Padmaavat is a period drama, starring Deepika Padukone in the title role while Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh appear in two pivotal roles. The movie faced stiff opposition from Karni Sena and others on alleged grounds of ‘misrepresentation’ and ‘distortion of facts.’ The movie is receiving a mixed response from the theatres. As people were afraid, the number of pre-bookings was very limited. Till date, this remains one of those movies to generate least advance bookings. We will have to wait a couple of more days to see if the movie is going to be a hit or flop. Made at a mammoth budget of Rs. 190 crores, the film requires more screens to gain well. Will people flow to the theatres to watch the Deepika Padukone starrer period drama?
