Review: From the trailer, the movie Lipstick Under My Burkha appeared to be quite bold and something that would be revolving around women’s sexual desire. But the movie is totally different from what it appeared. It talks about the status a woman has in the society. It talks about how easily; unknowingly and sometimes knowingly the men dominant society curbs the freedom of a woman. How they are expected to be in the rigid frame of rules and regulation and not allowed to think as they feel, in fact, are looked down upon if they even dare to think and feel like men do.

The movie honestly tells a woman’s dreams and desires which are overlooked and even curb ruthlessly, as she is a woman and women in our society need to follow a code of conduct.

The movie is about four women who live in Bhopal. One is Shireen role played by Konkona Sensharma who is the mother of three, and wife of a man who believes that women are only to bear and rear a man’s offsprings and comfort him in bed, the role of Shireen’s husband is played by Sushant Singh.

Second is young sexy  Leela role played by Aahana Kumra who runs a beauty parlour. Leela in the movie is a sexual creature and is likes to have it quite often be it with her boy friend role played by Vikrant Massey, or her potential groom. Then the other is youngest of all, a college student and pop sesation Miley Cyrus fan Rihana role played by Plabita Borthakur who is struggling with the old and orthodox parents who believe that singing is not good for a girl. And the last one is the old Buaji who has her strong sexual desires which she has to keep undertonned considering her age and single status.

Alankrita the director of the movie with a wonderful set of actors has come up with a powerful and impactful story. The director very well gets her point across and does it with élan.

Why To Watch: The movie is definitely a must watch and not to be missed. It is packed with some awesome performances and a strong message.
