Movie Review: Bareilly Ki Barfi - Ayushmann Khurrana, Kriti Sanon, Rajkummar Rao

Plot: The movie revolves around the central character of Bitti (Kriti Sanon). Her parents love her a lot and raise her like a boy and thus don’t mind if she smokes or Drinks. The girl who is now in a marriageable age is getting rejected from the suitors because of her flamboyant and modern nature and attitude. Even she is unable to strike a chord with someone who she thinks will understand her. One day while attempting of running from the house, Bitti happens to buy a book for reading called ‘Bareilly Ki Barfi’. The novel’s main character, the girl is just like Bitti and Bitti decide to hunt for the writer of the book and marry him as he will be someone who would understand her.

Review:  The movie starts off with a voiceover by Javed Akhtar, who takes us through the life of Bitti and his family, who happens to be his neighbours. The story of the movie is set in a small town in Uttar Pradesh called Bareilly and is about a lively girl Bitti Mishra (Kriti Sanon).

The narrator takes us through the story of the interesting life of Bitti and how she gets to find a suitable boy for herself.  The movie ‘Bareilly Ki Barfi’ is inspired by a French novel ‘Ingredients of Love’ and the writers of the movie have done a commendable job by changing the entire set up in Uttar Pradesh. The little nuances have been tactfully handled and presented.

Seema Pahwa and Pankaj Tripathi are outstanding in the movie with good comic moments. Book printer Chirag Dubey (Ayushmann Khurrana book’s false author Pritam Vidrohi (Rajkummar Rao) both steal the show. Rajkummar goes through a character changes in the movie and that is done so flawlessly by the talented actor.

The First half is engaging and interesting and the second half has an interesting pace as the real story of the movie shapes up.

The music of the movie is a mix of foot tapping numbers and soothing songs. Kriti Sanon is the main highlight of the movie and shines through the movie.

Why To Watch: The movie will make you remind of the movie ‘Sajan’, in fact, some of them guessed it from the trailer as well, but it is a fresh take on the story and is more colourful and vibrant in treatment.  There is hardly any dull moment in the movie and is a recommended one as a clean family entertainer.
