High Court Refuses to impose stay on the concert of 'Coldplay'

Bombay High Court has refused to apply stay over the upcoming concert of British Rock Band 'Coldplay'. However, High Court has said that Maharashtra government should take an undertaking from the event organizer that it would be willing to pay the entertainment duty if the court directs so in future. A division bench of Chief Justice Manjula Chellur and Justice M S Sonak said this during the hearing of on public interest litigation. This petition was filed by activists Anjali Damania and Hemant Gawande. They have challenged the Government decision to grant entertainment duty for the concert. This concert of Coldplay will be organized at MMRDA grounds in suburban Bandra Kurla Complex on 19th November. The petitioners had challenged the validity of the decision on exemption from payment of entertainment duty under Entertainment duty Act 1923 that it can be only given to the programs and shows which are organized charitable or educational purposes. Coldplay Indian video with Sonam Kapoor Acting Advocate General Rohit Deo said in the court today that concept of the festival is different and this is not only a rock show. Dev said this is going to be 8 hours long show and Coldplay is a part of this program. The basic motive of this program is to create awareness and educate people mostly youngsters about three subjects (gender equality, education, and clean water). These three are parts of 17 goals of the United Nations. Mostly Sunny Trailer He said that out of 80000 tickets, 65000 tickets will be given for free to those persons who show their contribution to society in the matter discussed above. Now out of 15000 tickets, 11 thousand tickets will be given to program organizers as they could get the expenses of the program and 4,000 have been kept for dignitaries. After listening to both the sides, Court said that right now petition can not be accepted and is not willing to impose the stay on the program.
